How It Plays

  • Game Mechanics:  This is a press your luck, card drafting game.  On a player's turn, they draw cards from a common deck one at a time.  The more cards that are drawn, the greater chance of getting two ships of the same color which will cause the player to lose their turn but may get to keep more than one card if enough different ship cards are drawn without busting.
  • Turn Summary:
    1. Draw cards one at a time into the harbor display, stopping at any time.
      • If two ship cards of the same color are drawn,  the player loses their turn and all cards are discarded.
      • A drawn ship may be discarded if the player has swords equal to or greater than the ship's swords.
      • If an expedition card is drawn, set it aside.  These expeditions can be acquired by trading people with the shown abilities for that expedition.
      • If a tax collector is drawn, anyone with more 12 or more gold must discard half of their gold.  One player will be awarded a gold as shown on the tax card.
    2. Select cards from display:
      • With 0-3 ships of different colors drawn the player may select 1 card.  With 4 ships of different colors, a player may select 2 cards to keep and with 5 ships of different colors the player may select 3 cards to keep.
      • If a ship card is selected take the gold shown on the card and discard the ship.
      • If a person is selected, pay the cost ofgold and add it to player area.
    3. The other players take turns optionally selecting 1 available card by paying any cost plus 1 gold to the current player.
  • End Game:  Game ends when a player has 12 victory points and the current round is completed.
  • Victory:  The player with the most points acquired from hired people and completed expeditions wins.
