Nations

Theme: Players control the fate of nations from their humble start in prehistoric times until the beginning of World War I.  The nations constantly compete against each other and must balance immediate needs, long-term growth, threats, and opportunities.


  • Play Time:  40 minutes per player
  • Player Count:  1-5 players
  • Ages:  14+
  • Complexity of Rules:  Medium/High
  • Setup Time:  Medium
  • Replay Value: High - There are many strategic paths to victory.
  • Direct Conflict: Medium/Low
  • Game Mechanics:  This is a resource management, economic, civilization building game.   Cards are drafted from the central board to build buildings for production, build armies, battle, build wonders,  hire advisers, and expand into new colonies. 
  • Round Summary:
    • Maintenance Phase
      1.  Advance round marker.
      2.  Refill progress board with cards of the current age.
      3.  Growth - each player chooses to ether add a new worker or take resources as shown on difficulty level chart.
      4.  Draw a new event card for that round.
      5. Refill architect cubes depending on player count and even card.
    • Action Phase - Players take turns doing one of the following actions until everyone has passed.
      1.  Buy a progress card to place on player board.
      2.  Deploy an available worker to one of the player's military or building cards. (workers may be removed from a card any time during a players turn.)  The military strength and stability tracks are adjusted immediately after placing or removing a worker from those type cards.
    • Resolution Phase
      1.  Production:  Players produce and consume resources as shown on their cards.
      2.  Adjust player order based on military strength.
      3.  Resolve war card if one has been bought this round.
      4.  Resolve both events on the event card.
      5.  Famine - Pay food costs as shown on event card.
      6.  Score heritage track for victory points if this round was the end of an age.
  • End Game:  Game end after 8 rounds.
  • Victory:  At the end of the game, players add up points from acquired victory point tokens, colonies, wonders, buildings, and military cards.  Any leftover resources, military strength and stability are added together and divided by 10.  The player with the most points wins.
