Theme:  In Fantastiqa players adventure through a fantastical landscape subduing monsters to help them complete quests.  Each creature you encounter has both an ability and a vulnerability.  A subdued creature is added to your expanding deck of cards, making its special ability into your own.  Some of the creatures also have precious gems, which you can spend to purchase powerful artifacts or summon mythical beasts.

How It Plays

  • Game Mechanics:  Fantastiqa is a deck building game in which players move from location to location playing cards to acquire monster ally cards to add to their deck.  Gems acquired from creatures can also be used to buy beast and artifact cards.  The cards can later be played to quests to complete them for victory points.
  • Turn Summery:
    1.  Refill creature and quest cards to any open spaces.  If a Mischievous Raven is drawn, the player with the most gems over 4 must discard half.
    2.  Perform one of the following actions:
      • Go adventuring - Move to any adjacent region by playing the required cards to subdue the creature you move over.  Movement can continue as long as the required cards are played.  Collect any subdued cards and gems.
      • Visit a Statue - perform one of the following 3 actions:
        1. Draw 3 cards from the pile matching the statue in your current region.
          • Pay gems to acquire all or some of the cards.  If quest cards were drawn, at least 1 quest card must be kept with a maximum of 3 personal quest cards active at a time.
        2. Release up to 3 cards from your hand or discard pile by paying 1 gem each.  Removing them from the game.
        3. Teleport to region with the matching statue.
      • Complete a quest - Must be in the region shown on the quest and discard cards to match all the required symbols on the quest.  Cards previously played under that quest (personal quests) or under the quest token (open quests) can be used.
      • Pass
    3.  Free actions on a turn include: Move cards to and from quests or under the quest token,  discard cards, use treasure tokens, use a cards special power or use artifact cards.
    4. Draw hand back up to 5
  • Game End/Victory:  The game ends when a player has the required points shown on the selected Quest Goal card or the creature deck runs out. The player with the most points from completed quests wins.
